Last New year we drove west
On January 8 2020 we had just finished the Outer Mountain Loop and climbed to the top of the South Rim in Big Bend. From our purple perch looking out over the sun setting on Terlingua, surrounded by century plants and small, but ambitious, pine trees, we watched the sunset. Destin got on one knee, which was a little difficult after the 40 mile hike, and honestly Samantha thought he needed help standing since neither could walk without a limp. She was pleasantly surprised to find this was not a medical emergency but a proposal.
It was a lovely start to 2020, the new decade, and a future we are excited to move toward. This past year has been unusual and difficult, but it also brought us moments to be proud of and things to celebrate. We started a small business as a part of the circular economy in Austin, taking action that we have always felt called to but unsure about how to start. Destin advanced to the second year of his MBA and is a week away from starting the final reckoning before graduation. Sam, after very timely advice from Destin, applied to UT and has started her Masters in Landscape Architecture. We are both excited to return to making movies in the future.
Our big 2021 news is that we are moving forward with our wedding! We continue to survive being locked in a house together and are excited to celebrate our 5+ year relationship and many years to come. In early March we decided on June 5th 2021 as the wedding day. After watching a roller coaster of a year unfold, we decided to stick to the plan, knowing any number of things can happen which might prevent us from having a great party with all of our friends and family but wanting to have a day set to celebrate in whatever way is safe and enjoyable. While it is impossible to say for sure what June 5th will look like, we hope y’all will save the date with us and we hope to celebrate with all of you. Until then, please keep in touch and let us know how you are doing. We miss you all and can’t wait to hug and dance with all of you in the future.
